THE VAULTS
Meet the manager
As the Society’s spiritual home prepares for a new look, there’s also a new face at the helm. Meet Kyle Gow, the new venue manager at The Vaults, relocating to Leith after almost four years with the SMWS at 28 Queen Street
Originally from Stockbridge in Edinburgh, Kyle grew up just five minutes from Queen Street. At 18 he had his first sip of malt whisky. “It was Lagavulin 16,” he says. “That was my falling in love with a single malt whisky!”
After almost two years at the Whiski Bar on the Royal Mile, he started with the Society at 28 Queen Street in November 2019. His next memorable whisky was his first Society dram, Cask No. 6.32: Knickerbockers at a wedding, a 12-year-old Spicy & Sweet flavour profile whisky from Speyside. “The name actually hit the nail on the head with the flavour,” says Kyle. “That one will always stick with me, but there have been so many good drams since.” Included in that is a dram of Cask No. 113.50: Here comes the Sun enjoyed on his wedding day.
As he takes over his self-proclaimed favourite bar, there is plenty of excitement ahead. “I love going to The Vaults,” says Kyle. “I’m looking forward to the new challenges and new location.”
With his passion for sharing whisky it is clear that members can expect plenty of memorable times ahead. “I'm really focussed on hospitality service and customer service,” Kyle says. “Being able to look after members and engage with new people is going to be really good fun.”
When he’s not at work, Kyle enjoys the dad life with his two kids. He enjoys watching football, getting in the odd round of golf and visiting distilleries.
